Hassan Shaibu. West African Cultural Dancer. Teacher.

Hi, I am Hassan Shaibu.
   Welcome to my site.  I am a dancer, drummer, performer, and teacher trained in the art and tradition of West African cultural dance. I was born and raised in Dekina, Nigeria, and am now based in Accra, Ghana.  I love dance as a method of storytelling and a way of being: it is my passion!  I invite you to contact me for workshops, tours and experiences of ancient and modern West African methods of cultural expression through art, music and dance.

   While my first degrees and teaching experiences were in History and International Studies (Kogi State University), dance has always been integral to my life.  I come from a family of professional dancers, and started dancing as a child.  In 1996, I began my professional dancing career in Nigeria with the Kogi State Council for Arts and Culture.   I have also had the privilege of dancing and teaching for the Abuja Council for Arts and Culture in Nigeria.  There I taught both adults and children traditional dance, aerobic dance and the magical art and presentation of the African Street Carnival Parade.  I am currently choreographing and performing cultural stories for international audiences in Accra.
